If you need some landscaping material, the City of Airdrie is offering free mulch for all Airdronians. For those interested, the city tries to keep a full pile located at 15 East Lake Hill.

Cory Anderson, who works for the City of Airdrie Parks Department, discussed where they get their mulch.

"For any trees that are taken down or pruned, the leftovers are sent through a wood chipper, and we create our mulch for residents."

While trying to have a constant supply all the time, sometimes the pile does run out as residents sometimes get truck fulls at a time, according to Anderson. The mulch is supposed to be for residential use, not commercial.

"This program has been going on for a few years for sure. It's just something that we can do to help out our residents."

Anderson stated residents have used it before for their backyard projects, flower beds, and really anything you would use mulch for.

"We're happy to contribute to making people's backyards more beautiful. That's what we're trying to do on a daily basis in the parks for all the people of Airdrie."

During winter, the city provides grit in the same location for free for residents to use at their own will.

"It's a combination of a little bit of salt,  rock and dirt. It'll help melt ice on sidewalks and driveways."

With this being said, this is just a reminder for the gardeners that we are in level four water restrictions so the only water you are allowed to use outside is rain barrel water as we need to keep our water consumption rate down.
