Rocky View Schools (RVS) has prioritized upgrades and essential replacement projects for the 2024/25 school year.

One of the objectives of RVS's Strategic Plan is to give their employees and kids access to secure, well-maintained schools. To assist this objective, RVS ranks the annual repair and renewal projects that schools throughout the division most urgently need.

"In March of 2024, as part of the provincial budget, RVS was granted $2,864,478 for Infrastructure Maintenance and Renewal (IMR) projects for the 2024/25 school year," stated RVS.

While this funding will allow RVS to undertake many of the needed and ongoing maintenance projects in division schools, according to the school division, more funding is required to keep up with the stresses placed on facilities by growing enrolment and utilization.

The projects include painting the interiors of schools in Airdrie, Chestermere, and Cochrane; replacing the flooring in Crossfield, Bragg Creek, and Cochrane; installing air conditioning units in a few RVS modular homes; and replacing the laminate flooring in schools across the division.

Some of the other Airdrie projects include duct cleaning, student washroom upgrades, gym floor sand and re-line. All the projects are listed below.

Also, at the latest meeting, RVS was asked to contribute to the artificial turf field being constructed at Ed Eggerer Atheltic Park.

The City of Airdrie is currently supporting the project with a budget of $4.6 million, they hope RVS will provide 13 per cent ($600,000) of total funds for the field.

If the funds are donated, the city will recognize the contribution through prominent signage, stakeholder celebrations and continued top priority allocation for RVS, varsity and intramural usage.

The City estimates that the new artificial turf field will be open to the public in time for the next school year to start in September.
