With the Airdrie Techmation Thunder's hockey season now in the books, the General Manager of the team, Shaun Guest is proud of what the team was able to accomplish.

The Thunder finished their season off with a 4-2 series loss in the Heritage Junior Hockey League North Divison Final.

"I thought the boys got better as the season went on. We definitely battled some pretty untimely injuries and we dealt with a lot of adversity, but I felt that the boys really came together as a team; finished off the regular season strong, and definitely had a good playoff run."

The regular season ended with the Thunder sitting in second place in the north division with a record of 23 wins, 13 losses and two overtime losses.

Dace Carlson, Mathew MacDonald, Jacob Cathcart, and Brandt Grimeau are the graduating players this year that won't be able to play with the Thunder next season.

"Just having that veteran presence in the dressing room, we really saw it during playoffs, you got guys grabbing boards in between periods; talking hockey, talking plays and it was nice to see. I think that will carry into next year and give us a good start moving forward."

When asked about one of his fondest memories, Guest mentioned one memory was when they got Tyler Broesky and he was able to seal the win for the Thunder back in his hometown.

"We went down on our Coaldale, Medicine Hat trip for one weekend, we went to a seven or eight-round shootout. To watch Tyler score to win the game in the seventh or eighth round, off both posts, was amazing. I swear to God, the entire city of Medicine Hat is Tyler's family, it was loud, and it was exciting."

Looking ahead a lot of things are going to get done before the next season, the dressing room will be brand new with everything getting renovated.

"We have our spring ID camp coming up in April to have a look at some new guys. We also have our three-on-three camp coming up in August."

Even though 19 players from this year are eligible to return, they will still have to fight for their spot, Guest mentioned.

The Thunder will be having their awards banquet on April 19 along with their gold tournament on May 31.

Guest did have something pretty special to announce.

"We will be doing an Airdrie thunder alumni game, on July 22 In Airdrie."

Famous Airdronian hockey players including Aaron Dell, Ty Rattie and Jake Neighbours have all been invited to play in the game.

Guest finished off by saying he is super proud of everybody that helped out with this season, including the coaches and players as he looks forward to next year.
