While the local all-girls curling team, Team Plett, will have some downtime between their arrival back to Alberta after the Canada Winter Games, in a few weeks' time they will be competing again.

The team which is headed by Airdrie coach Blair Lenton won silver in Prince Edward Island and now they are looking ahead to Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec where the 2023 New Holland Canadian Junior Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships will take place at the end of March. The Under 21 (U21) championships will be the last tournament of the season and as Lenton reflects on this year, he underlined it's been one to remember.

"[It's been] simply incredible. I've never really experienced it before with any other team that I've coached," he said. "They just all came together when it really mattered and that's what happens when you do that. Good things happen."

Myla Plett, the team's skip reflected on participating in the Canada Winter Games and what it meant for her and the team.

"Going into the gold medal [game], the team was pretty calm, but we're still super pumped to be in the game and just work our way towards that. It was just a huge accomplishment."

The team, comprised of Plett, Alyssa Nedohin (third), Chloe Fediuk (second), and Allie Iskiw (lead) beat Nova Scotia's curling team for the silver medal in the final. While Plett said that their final game in P.E.I. may not have been their best, the team has much to be proud of as they also defended their national title at the 2023 U18 Curling Championships.

Coach Lenton said that despite the team placing second, they still fought well and fought hard.

"We had lots of opportunities to make a shot here and there and it doesn't always go your way," Lenton said. "This time it just didn't fall on our side, but we were happy to represent Alberta and come back [with the] silver."

Between now and March 25, when the U21 championships start, Plett said the team will try and do their best to rest up, but also find time to start training.

"The competition will definitely be very strong. So, we'll have to bring our best. It'll be just nice to represent Alberta again at a national event."
