Airdrie's population is still on the rise. At today's City of Airdrie council meeting the results from the census earlier this year were presented.

According to the census, Airdrie has a population of 85,805, which is a 6.39 per cent growth rate since the 2023 municipal census. This is an increase of 5,156 residents.

The City now has 29,851 dwellings altogether, with an average of 2.87 residents per dwelling.

“Our 2024 census results are a testament to Airdrie being a vibrant and diverse community that people want to call home. We very much appreciate everyone’s participation in our census efforts gathering all the accurate information says Mayor Peter Brown. “While these results highlight our impressive growth, they also remind us of the need to remain committed to supporting responsible development, working diligently to create a future where everyone thrives. Together, we will continue to build a community that supports and benefits our residents and businesses.”

Since the 2023 municipal census, Airdrie has added 1,107 new homes, a 3.85 per cent increase. This growth includes both single-family and multi-family residences, with the communities of South Windsong, Bayview, and Lanark seeing the most significant increases.

"In 2024, many Airdrie residents provided their census information online and an online completion rate of 70.07 per cent, an increase from last year’s online completion rate of 66.36 per cent," stated the city.

According to the presentation presented to the council, Airdrie's population growth is close in size to the population of Didsbury.

“A big thank you goes to our residents for taking the time to complete their census and making this year’s municipal census a success,” says Tammy Belsham, Team Leader of Legislative Services. “An accurate census count is vital information used by City Council and Administration to allocate resources effectively, ensuring our residents’ needs are met and our community continues to thrive.”

The City of Airdrie conducted a municipal census from April 1 to June 7, 2024.
