Another locally filmed movie will be hitting the big screens in the coming future. The Thicket which is produced by TUBI Movies Nomadic Pictures is set to hit movie theatres on September 6.

According to IMDB, The movie is about a boy who, after his sister is kidnapped by a violent killer known only as Cut Throat Bill, enlists a fierce bounty hunter named Reginald Jones who becomes the leader of the group of outcasts searching for the stolen girl in West Texas.

While the movie is set in Texas, it was shot in multiple areas of Alberta. According to Keep Alberta Rolling, it was shot at the 2023 Global Production Award-winning CL Western Town and Alberta Farms standing sets and amongst the rocky mountains of Kananaskis.

Some of the stars in the movie include Peter Dinklage, Juliette Lewis, Esme Creed-Miles and Andrew Schulz.

Not only was the movie filmed locally, but many workers from the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 212 (which represents Airdronians) also got to work on the movie behind the scenes.

IATSE is the largest union in the entertainment industry, representing behind-the-scenes workers across film, television, live performances, and tradeshows. From cinematographers to costume designers, or riggers to ushers, IATSE members are the people who make sure the show goes on.

Earlier this month, the province announced some changes to Alberta’s Film and Television Tax Credit (FTTC). According to the province, these updates will help attract even more world-class productions.

Some of the popular shows that have been filmed in the Airdrie area include The Last of UsUnder The Banner of Heaven and My Life With the Walter Boys.
