Recently, Rocky View Schools shared that locally developed courses (LDCs) will be back next year.

LDCs are created by other jurisdictions, enabling school authorities to innovate and respond to local needs. These courses provide students with unique opportunities to explore various interests that complement the provincial programs of study.

The Board approved the renewal of several Locally Developed Courses (LDCs) and the acquisition of one new LDC beginning in the 2024/25 school year in the following subjects:

  • ESL Expository English
  • Gender Studies
  • Military Studies
  • Reading Foundations
  • Treaties and Sovereignty

Some other LDCs that RVS provides include Astronomy, Indigenous Art and Ceremony, Métis History and Stories, Pathways to Reconciliation,  Leather Technologies, and Orientation and Mobility.

Also recently Rocky View Schools prioritized upgrades and essential replacement projects for the 2024/25 school year.

One of the objectives of RVS's Strategic Plan is to give their employees and kids access to secure, well-maintained schools. To assist this objective, RVS ranks the annual repair and renewal projects that schools throughout the division most urgently need.

"In March of 2024, as part of the provincial budget, RVS was granted $2,864,478 for Infrastructure Maintenance and Renewal (IMR) projects for the 2024/25 school year," stated RVS.

While this funding will allow RVS to undertake many of the needed and ongoing maintenance projects in division schools, according to the school division, more funding is required to keep up with the stresses placed on facilities by growing enrolment and utilization.

The projects include painting the interiors of schools in Airdrie, Chestermere, and Cochrane; replacing the flooring in Crossfield, Bragg Creek, and Cochrane; installing air conditioning units in a few RVS modular homes; and replacing the laminate flooring in schools across the division.

Some of the other Airdrie projects include duct cleaning, student washroom upgrades, gym floor sand and re-line. All the projects are listed below.

The RVS Board of Trustees also wanted to express its thanks to all staff and students for their efforts to make the school year a successful one and wishes all RVS staff, students and families a happy and healthy summer break.
