Stephen's Backpacks Society is gearing up to send 3000 backpacks to students up North but first, they need help packing up all those backpacks with school supplies.

Currently looking for volunteers, the society will be needing volunteers on Friday, August 5, to get all the supplies to the warehouse and begin packing up the backpacks while volunteers will be needed on Saturday, August 6, to finish packing the bags and putting them onto the transport trucks.

Nancy McPhee, director of Stephen's Backpacks Society, said Costco made one very surprising contribution.

"They donated 2,700 backpacks to us. When he called me and he said, 'I've got some good news and bad news. They won't be there until July but the good news is, we've got 2,700,' I just about fell off my chair."

According to McPhee, recipients up in Fort McMurray are excited to receive their backpacks.

"They're incredibly excited about it. We're going to fly Stephen up there once we get all the backpacks up there so Stephen can send out his best wishes for the upcoming year for everybody and meet a few of the kids."

Not only can individuals volunteer, but groups such as sports teams, 4-H groups, etc., can volunteer as well.
