Players suiting up for the Airdrie Thunder Hockey team next season will have more reason to be excited after the team finalized a new partnership with the Calgary Jr. A Mustangs.

The move would see both clubs working together in various aspects and essentially see members of the Thunder possibly wearing an Alberta Junior Hockey League Jersey.

President and Governor with the Mustangs Ken Morris explains what this partnership involves.

"We're gonna help the Thunder with their camps, they're going to help us with ours. We're going to assist each other in fundraising and basically we're going to look to the Airdrie Thunder for players to come up and play for us when we have injuries."

With the Mustangs holding strong to their mandate of developing players from Calgary and surrounding area Morris goes on to say this agreement will help strongly develop the local stars.

"Airdrie has produced in the last few years some excellent hockey players...I just felt it was time to get back together with them (Thunder), they've got a good group of organizers there and we sat down and worked it out; that's where we're sitting right now."

Some local players that have seen their way through the AJHL include Red Deer Rebels Taden Rattie and RBC Cup finalist Zac Giroux.

Although there are still details to work out, Morris says that when all is off the table, great things are in store for this partnership.

"The actual Farm Team aspect of it is just working together with Gord Ziegler and Larry and the group, working back and forth to help each other put on some hockey schools. We're probably going to play a satellite game in Airdrie against Fort Mac."

The Mustangs and Thunder will hold training camps later this summer before their respective seasons kick off in September.
