The Didsbury Fire Department has added seven new firefighters to its ranks.

The recruits include (last names withheld for confidentiality):

  • Gideon L
  • Joe C
  • Erin K
  • Calum B
  • Steve C
  • Mike K
  • Radu B

Chief Curtis Mousseau of the Didsbury Fire Department talked about the process of finding these recruits after they opened a recruitment drive late in 2023.

"Over the last few months, they successfully completed our rookie training program, which entails online theory, as well as practical skills."

Mousseau explained they needed to bring in new firefighters as their numbers started to trend in the wrong way.

"As people move on with their lives, move away, family commitments things like that, they were unable to stay as a member of the team. So, we were able to fill up those spots."

This was the largest recruit class the fire department has had in recent memory, according to Mousseau.

The fire department also promoted three firefighters to Lieutenant, including Kyle G, Raphael B and Mackenzie D.

"'I'm excited to finally have all our positions filled. It will strengthen us going forward."

Also recently, the Didsbury Fire Department welcomed its new, long-awaited Heavy Duty Rescue Unit.
