In their inaugural year, SC Elite Basketball has already seen success in it's boys U17, U15, and U13 squads - all of which will be competing in the prestigious Genesis Classic basketball tournament in Calgary this weekend.

"This Genesis Classic this weekend is going to be phenomenal," says Director of Basketball Operations with SC Elite, Jamie Newman. "You got some of the best teams in Western Canada, some teams from the United States coming up here so it's going to be a real eye opening experience for our boys, I know they're super excited to get going."

The tournament runs all weekend at SAIT and Clear Water Academy including a skills competition, three point shootout and a slam dunk contest on Saturday night.

With over 55 teams hitting the court in four separate divisions (U17, U15, U13, U11) the Genesis Classic is one of the pinnacle spring basketball tournaments in the country.

Newman says his team is prepared for the weekend already showing some great results in their Genesis League.

"Our season so far has been great, at my U17 level we're 5-0 in our league play which is great."

As the Head Coach of the SC Elite U17A Boys, Newman says his kids have been locked into the program and willing to expand their talent and ability.

"They've been very engaged right from day one, this is a different level then high school - it's a lot faster, it's more up tempo style of basketball."

"You compare it to college or university it's go-go-go," adds Newman. "If you're not ready to come out the gates right from the get-go you're going to slip behind."

That's one thing SC Elite has no intention of doing as they'll look to stay competitive against some of Canada's best.
