The SC Elite Basketball teams are officially in the midst of their inaugural season.

Tuesday night at SAIT, the U17A Boys managed to earn their first win of the Genesis League with an 88-64 victory over the Calgary Storm.

"It's a long time coming," says Head Coach Jamie Newman. "I told the boys last night it's history for SC Elite Basketball to be part of the first game ever but at the same time to get a W is definitely key."

With 12 players on the team and 11 from Airdrie, Newman says he has a balanced squad that grabbed some early confidence.

"Nice win for the team plus at the same time it was just nice to get a W under the belt first game of the season."

The U17A Boys continue league play every Tuesday night prior to the Genesis Classic tournament over the May long weekend which will bring elite basketball teams from across Canada and the United States.

Meanwhile the five other SC Elite teams will be in exhibition games in a couple of weeks while the U15A Boys tip off their Genesis League season at Mount Royal Wednesday evening.

Newman says it should be a great first season for all the SC Elite Basketball teams.

"It's just nice to be able to put some Airdrie kids on the map and show them what that next level of basketball is like."
