The Airdrie and District Community Foundation had a very busy Thursday night at their gala as they donated $28,000 to five different organizations.

A registered charity, The Airdrie & District Community Foundation allows people and organizations to donate tax-deductible funds to a lasting financial legacy that will benefit Airdrie for years to come. This year, the organizations receiving the funds included:

The Airdrie Public Library received $9000 to help provide new books for when they move to the new Multi-Use Facility.

Kelly Boudreau, a Director of the Board of the Airdrie and District Community Foundation talked about what this night was all about.

"It's an event to recognize our donors and to give the grant recipients a chance to tell us what their charities do."

Boudreau also mentioned it is also a celebration of what the foundation does.

"We keep the principle of the donations that come into the foundation; we just donate the interest every year. I think we started around the $7000-$8000 mark, and now we're giving out 28,000."

This is the fifth year of the gala being hosted in person; of course, COVID put it on hold for a few years.

"It feels like everything's coming together and we're gaining momentum to hit the million-dollar mark."

The foundation has a fund of just over $700,000.
