Today was a special day for the Airdrie and District Community Foundation as they unveiled their Donor Recognition Tree at Genesis Place.

This tree was made to recognize all the donations that were generously made to be $1000, or over.

Kelly Boudreau, a director on the board for the Airdrie and District Community Foundation explains what the event was all about and what the foundation does.

"This is our first donor tree for the foundation, recognizing the donors that up to this point have given $1,000 or more to the foundation. The money that gets invested in the foundation stays there, then the interest and the dividend and the growth on the money every year gets donated to local charities that apply for grants."

Airdrie and District Community Foundation has been in the work for 12 years, and 8 years actively donating to local organizations.

"In the first year, we were giving about $8,000 a year and now we're giving about 25 to 30,000 a year."

Over those eight years the original pot of funds which they then donate the interest off of has reached $670,000.

Boudreau explained by the end of this year, they hope to hit the $1 million mark.
