Local author Julianne Harvey is hosting a social media workshop for Crossfield residents and businesses Oct. 29. Harvey has been using social media for a number of years, and after some interest from residents and the Town, she decided to organize the session.

She says one of the biggest misconceptions that keep people away from joining Twitter or Facebook is the lack of privacy once you join. Harvey says many of the privacy controls on these sites are 100 per cent controllable by the user, and the benefits of social media outweigh the misconceived risks.

“It’s just exploded in the past few years. I have heard it said that saying you are not on Facebook is like saying you don’t have a television or a phone,” she says. "The idea is to let people know it’s free and it can be a valuable tool for your business."

The event will be held at the Crossfield Community Hall, Oct. 29 from 7-9 p.m. The cost to register is $25 by calling the Crossfield Town Office at 403-946-5565.
