City Fire Chief, Mike Pirie, stated that the fire had engulfed the two-storey home in the garage, extending to the second floor, with the fire spreading through the attic quickly. Fire crews were able to keep the fire contained to the original home.

Four occupants of the home evacuated and were safe, though Emergency Medical Services treated the individuals for smoke inhalation. Fire crews continue to be on the scene and it is expected that they will remain there through the day.

Earlier in the morning, the area was cordoned off as fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze. Due to water and spray from firefighting activities, the streets and sidewalks are icy and residents are urged to remain cautious.

The cause is not known and the fire is under investigation
