Two Airdronians are heading down to California for the North American Scooter Championship hosted by United Scooter Association on August 23-27.

Tirus Cooke and Kage Shafers will be making the trip down to Tehachapi, California to try and earn themselves a trip to Australia for the World Championship.

Both athletes first competed in the Alberta Open Qualifier to make the North American Championships. Both Tirus and Kage qualified for the 12-15-year-old age category. They are part of 30 kids who qualified in Canada in their division and part of an estimated 100 kids competing in California.

Tirus can't wait to show off his skills in California.

"I'm very excited about the experience and getting to ride with new people. I hope I do really well."

Tirus's dad, Doug, is super proud of his son and how far he has come. He stated both Titus and Kage pretty much live at the Chinook Winds Skate Park all summer.

"He spends a lot of time practicing and perfecting what he's doing. He's very passionate and really dedicated. I'm happy to see all his hard work paying off."

Tirus, who has been scootering for three years now, first fell in love with the sport when he saw a bunch of professional scootering videos. Tirus stated that qualifying for Australia would be an amazing experience and something he would never forget.

"It wouldn't surprise me [if he did qualify] he's put a lot of time into this and he's got some great support and a good group of friends at the skate park that really push each other day in and day out."

Both Tirus and Kage are sponsored riders, Kage for House of Wheels in Calgary and Steelhead Speed Shop out of Burnaby British Columbia for Tirus.
