Airdronian Josh Davies has been traded from the Swift Current Broncos to the Portland Winterhawks.

The news broke Wednesday that Davies and his teammate Tyson Yaremko were traded for Ryan McCleary, a sixth-round draft pick in 2027 and four conditional picks.

"Very appreciative of this opportunity. It's a great spot to be with a great organization," stated Davies.

Davies is sad to leave the team he has been with for the past four years.

"I call Swift Current a second home. I appreciate all the fans, the billets, the coaches and my teammates for giving me the best four years I could possibly have for part of my junior career. I wish them the best of luck this season and the future seasons."

During the 2022–23 season, Davies scored 20 goals and added 14 assists for 34 points, placing sixth in goals and eighth in points among all Broncos players. Davies was originally taken by Swift Current in the third round, 54th overall, of the 2019 WHL Prospects Draft. Over the course of four seasons, he accrued 79 points in 149 games.

"Portland's always a very good team, they're going to be a strong team next year. This gives me a chance to hopefully win a title with Portland, I'm looking forward to getting to work and meeting all the guys and seeing the facilities, it's exciting."

Training camp with the Winterhawks starts August 31, so, Davies will head down a few days beforehand to get settled in.

Davies was selected with the 186th overall pick in the 6th round in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft by the Florida Panthers, Davies will be spending some time with the Panthers during their rookie camp which starts September 12, then he hopes to attend the main training camp and the preseason with the Panthers.

If Davies does not play with the Panthers or the Charlotte Checkers (AHL affiliate of the Panthers which he made his debut in April) this season, he will return to the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Winterhawks.
