Three local athletes will be representing their schools at the Alberta Football Senior Bowl this Sunday.

The Senior Bowl is taking place in Calgary at the Shouldice Athletic Park, Encana Dome. January 4-6 were install camps for both teams.

The three athletes include:

  • Abdul-Hameed Alawiye - Offensive Lineman - W.H. Croxford Cavaliers
  • Wes Bromley - Linebacker - George McDougall Mustangs
  • Jordan Southern - Denfensive Lineman - George McDougall Mustangs

"Wes was the hard hitter in RVS without a shadow of a doubt. Not only was he solid physically but he put himself all year in positions to make plays. His forced fumble in the RVS finals was a key play in our victory over Cochrane," stated Head Coach of the Mustangs Chris Glass.

The Senior Bowl is made up of the top 40 grade 12 athletes who tried out for the north or south team. The Airdrie area represents the south team.

"Jordan Southern was a dominant lineman and struck fears into the hearts of QBs this season. He was instrumental in wins of Cochrane will his relentless pressure on QBs. He is going to have a ton of football ahead of him," mentioned Glass.

The game is considered a final showcase for those who might want to play at the next level.

"Abdul has been a centrepiece of our offensive line for the last 3 years. This year he was a league all-star for us and our Lineman of the year. He was very versatile starting at Left Tackle and moving into Center when we needed him. He’s going to be a challenging one to replace next year. Looking forward to seeing him represent the C and Swords at the Senior Bowl," stated W.H. Croxford Head Coach Josiah Donahue.

Last year, Airdrie had nine athletes at the Senior Bowl. Those included:

  • Paul Condon - George McDougall - Runningback
  • Dawson Jensen – George McDougal - Linebacker
  • Robert Lasebnik – George McDougal - Kicker/Punter
  • Charles Wiersma – Bert Church - Receiver
  • Kadin McFadzen – Bert Church - Offensive Line
  • Ty Ochitwa – Bert Church - Defensive Line
  • Brydon Cameron – Bert Church - Linebacker
  • Ryan Pace – Bert Church - Defensive Back
  • Marcus Lowe – W.H. Croxford - Defensive Back
