Nine Airdrie athletes will shine bright for the South Team at this year's 33rd Annual Senior Bowl High School All-Star Game in Lacombe Monday, May 22.

Unfortunately, three Airdrie football players that tried out did not make the South Team but George McDougall Head Coach and the Special Teams Coordinator and Quarterback Coach for the Senior Bowl South Team Chris Glass talked about how close those three athletes were to making the team.

"I can say this without any platitudes every single one of the Airdrie kids made it really competitive. The ones who didn't make the squad were in the discussions to make the squad. It was just that there were only 40 kids that we were allowed to take. If this was a 50-man roster, we'd be taking a lot more Airdrie kids and there's no doubt about that."

With that being said, having nine Airdrie players on the team is something to be super proud of.

"It is a phenomenal representation of our city and what the football community has been doing, high schools especially."

The Players the made the Senior Bowl South Team include:

  • Paul Condon - George McDougall - Runningback
  • Dawson Jensen – George McDougal - Linebacker
  • Robert Lasebnik – George McDougal - Kicker/Punter
  • Charles Wiersma – Bert Church - Receiver
  • Kadin McFadzen – Bert Church - Offensive Line
  • Ty Ochitwa – Bert Church - Defensive Line
  • Brydon Cameron – Bert Church - Linebacker
  • Ryan Pace – Bert Church - Defensive Back
  • Marcus Lowe – W.H. Croxford - Defensive Back

The Senior Bowl is one last chance for players to play for their high schools and represent their city in a high-profile game for Football Alberta.

These nine athletes will partake in the Senior Bowl Main Camp and Game. The Camp is from May 18 - 21 while the game is Monday, May 22 at 12 pm at MEGlobal Athletic Park in Lacombe.
