It was a great start to the 2019 WHL Cup for Team Alberta and the two Airdrie players on the squad.

Josh Davies scored once and added an assist and defenceman Jaren Brinson also fired a goal as Alberta disposed of Manitoba 7 - 3 to start the tournament.

Davies was a third-round selection in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft, being chosen 54th overall by the Swift Current Broncos.  He currently plays with the Pacific Coast Academy Prep School of the Canadian School Sport Hockey League (CSSHL).

Brinson was also drafted in the 2019 Bantam Draft, being picked in the second round, 36th overall by the Swift Current Broncos.  Brinson plays for the Edge Prep School in the CSSHL.

The WHL Cup pits the top-rated under 16-year-old players from the four western provinces against each other in a round-robin tournament.  Alberta is the five-time reigning champions.

Tonight at 6:00 pm at Winsport Arena in Calgary, Alberta will face Team Saskatchewan in their second game of the tourney.  Yesterday Saskatchewan lost 6 - 4 against B.C. in their opening game.
