The Airdrie Techmation Thunder came through for a decisive win to begin the Heritage Junior Hockey League weekend and suffered a tough loss to end it.

On Friday, Airdrie was at home to face the Rocky Rams. After falling behind 1 - 0 just past the five-minute mark of the first period, the game was all Thunder as they cruised to a 9 - 3 win.

Jeremy Jobin scored a hattrick for Airdrie while Jacob Cathcart added a pair that opened and closed the scoring for the Thunder.  Singles came from the sticks of Tanner Chapman, Aidan Moore, Tyler Broesky and Jack Turton.  It was Broesky's first goal of the year.

The game may have been closer than the final score indicated.  Rocky actually outshot Airdrie 38 -37.

On Saturday the Thunder made the trip to Sylvan Lake to face off with the Wranglers, a team they're battling with, along with the Mountainview Colts, for first place in the North Division of the HJHL.

The game was a back-and-forth affair with the Wranglers taking the lead and the Thunder coming back to tie it up until the score reached 4 - 4.  Sylvan Lake once again took a one-goal lead, then scored to make it a 6 - 4 margin just prior to the halfway point of the third period.

The Thunder let Sylvan know they weren't finished rather quickly as just fifteen seconds after the Wranglers took their two-goal lead, Will Barrett made it 6 - 5.  Fifty-nine ticks of the clock later, Jeremy Jobin scored his fourth goal of the weekend to send the game to overtime where neither team could put the winner home.  That led to a shootout where the Wranglers would prevail for a 7 - 6 victory.

Jared Miller had a pair of goals for Airdrie with Justin LeGrandeur and Tanner Chapman accounting for the other scoring.

Sylvan Lake and Mountainview are now tied for first in the North, each with 33 points.  Sylvan Lake holds one game in hand.  The Colts won 2 - 1 over the Red Deer Vipers last night.  Airdrie now has a record of 15-10-1 for 31 points.

After two games today (December 18), the HJHL will go on their Christmas break.  Airdrie will host the Colts on Friday, December 30th at 8:00 pm in the Ron Ebbesen Arena.
