Extreme cold weather has taken hold of Airdrie and area and it's causing some cancelations for a local festival.

Airdrie Festival of Lights has announced that this evenings events won't happening.

"Well, the weather certainly took a turn! Our winters are unpredictable and can turn from a chinook to downright freezing!

With temperatures so cold, plus the windchill, we have decided to cancel all events for this evening.

Instead, we will have a "Limited Opening," which means we will have the LIGHTS ON, fire pits stoked, and the concession and store will be open too!

So if you want to bundle up and head out this evening, the 13 light displays throughout the park and more than 500,000 bulbs will be GLOWing!

Stay tuned to our social media and website for updates on activities and event cancellations over the next few days, as the weather is forecast to continue to be very cold."

If you are heading out to check out the lights, bundle up as temperatures are going to dip to minus thirty with the wind chill, according to local forecasts.
