After Airdrie's bid for Hockeyville fell short last weekend, you might be wondering, what's next for the Plainsmen Arena?

In that bid, presented by Airdrie Dads, the Plainsmen was chosen as the facility that would receive upgrades if the city made the finals.

The arena which has been a staple in Airdrie for decades is in need of refurbishing and according to Ron Powlesland with Arena Operations, there are plans in the works.

"The plan is to revisit that, get some new pricing, in order to go forward with the scope of work we're looking at."

These plans, which include renovations to the dressing rooms and lobby are still in planning stages but Powlesland hopes that action will take place in the next couple years.

"If it's approved by City Council, we're looking at a 2019 target date."

Last October the Plainsmen Arena was closed for a while after damage sustained from a water leak, leaving some groups without a home arena for up to two months.
