Last Saturday, The Alberta Government moved the Minimum wage in the Province to $12.20 an hour.

While those in the NDP are praising the move, others are justv seeing smoke and mirrors.

According to Airdrie Wildrose MLA Angela Pitt, some local businesses have been bracing for this.

"One of the biggest industries that are seeing a hit are the restaurants here. And they've actually warned that 75% of their Alberta members from Restaurants Canada would expect sales to drop over the next six months."

Kent Rupert with the City of Airdrie's Economic Development agrees that many companies will have tough choices coming up.

"Businesses will have to see whether they can reduce their costs like hours of operations or staffing...or increase revenues to make up for the increase in staffing costs."

One of the biggest moves that came as a result of the wage increase was from Cineplex which some of their ticket prices anywhere from 21 to 51 cents a ticket.

Sarah Van Lange with Cineplex says that the company is doing their best to make the movie going experience affordable and that these changes were made to offset the increased cost of operations.

Right now, the only change to the Cineplex theatre in CrossIron is a slight increase to their Tuesday Movie Tickets.
