A 31-year-old Airdrie man has charges pending against him after a police pursuit on Highway #1 in Rockyview County ended near Strathmore town limits this morning (June 1).

Corporal Laurel Scott says just after 7:00 am Strathmore RCMP received a call about a possible impaired driver on Highway #1.  The RCMP responded and located the suspect vehicle near Strathmore and tried to stop it.  The driver refused to stop and evaded police.  From there, Scott picks up the details.

"The RCMP could see themselves a very problematic driving pattern with the vehicle.  Out of concern for public safety, for the safety of other users of the road and the safety of the driver himself, we initiated a pursuit with that vehicle.  It was not a very long pursuit and we were able to stop the vehicle and apprehend the lone male occupant in the vehicle."

The man was taken into custody without incident.  Scott says the RCMP are investigating the circumstances of his driving, including the possibility of impaired driving.  The charges have not been sworn at this time so Scott can't comment on the nature of the charges.

Scott says the RCMP are very pleased that the incident was resolved so quickly.  The investigation is continuing.
