The Ad Hoc Committee and Board of Trustees have decided on an official name for the new Hillcrest school.

On February 7, the Ad Hoc Naming Committee selected and presented two potential names for the Hillcrest Community K-8 School: 'Northcott Prairie School' and 'Hillcrest Point School'.

The Rocky View Schools (RVS) Board of Trustees approved the name 'Northcott Prairie School' for the new school in the community of Hillcrest.

Where does the name 'Northcott' come from? The Northcott name has been engraved in Airdrie's history since the early 1900s after the arrival of two families. William Northcott Sr. and John Northcott owned land near the location of the planned Hillcrest school and were involved in the start-up of Nose Creek School - one of the first schools in the region (Beddington area). Descendants of both Northcott families still reside, work, and volunteer in Airdrie today.

Northcott Prairie School is set to open in fall 2019.
