2016 saw the second wettest month of July in over 100 years.

Last month, Airdrie and surrounding area saw 201.6mm of rain, where it would normally see about 65.2mm.

"El Niño is really on the wain, which is one of the reasons we've been having such a convective patterns, if you'd like, locked into the atmosphere, we just keep cycling moisture." said Brian Proctor, Meteorologist with Environment Canada.

Although Alberta weather is known for its unpredictability, the past month has brought showers more persistent than normal.

The most July rainfall in the area occurred in 1927, when 246 mm was recorded.

Typically, about 421.9mm of rain falls annually, with July approaching 50% of that.

Despite the record month, Environment Canada predicts that the next few weeks will remain relatively average with seasonal conditions.
