Former Conservative MLA Derek Fildebrandt was in a Didsbury courtroom today (February 2) as he pleaded guilty to a Fish and Wildlife charge from last year.
Fildebrandt was charged with illegally killing a whitetail deer during a hunting excursion, where he was unaware he was on privately owned land.
As a result of the plea, Fildebrandt was ordered to pay $3,000 in fines.
The court case was not known to the United Conservative Party, who met with Fildebrandt recently to discuss his application for returning to the party caucus.
In a statement released today, Party leader Jason Kenney said that Fildebrandt "misled [the party] in refusing to disclose this outstanding charge. Consequently, as Party Leader I have decided that Mr. Fildebrandt will not be permitted to seek a United Conservative Party nomination."
Fildebrandt left the UCP last August after it was discovered he was renting out a tax payer subsidized apartment through Air BNB. He has been sitting as an Independent MLA since.
