An upcoming microchip clinic being held by a local animal rescue is reminding Airdrie and area residents of the importance of getting your animals microchipped.

According to Edna Jackson, owner of Tails to Tell, many animals without microchips cross through the rescue's thresholds.

"People bring in strays and say, 'we found it.' And we still have them. We've put out notices saying that we do have them, but if it's not microchipped, then it can't be traced back to the owners."

Jackson added that the entire idea behind microchipping is to ensure lost animals find their way home.

"The idea is to identify the animals. We have so many people that bring in animals that they found and many of them don't have any sort of ID. So they've got no collar, no microchip, no tattoo, none of that sort of stuff."

With many animals finding their ways out of their homes or backyards, dogs and cats are often found but do not make it home.

"Cause you're just going by guess and golly. We put it up on our Facebook and hope and pray that the owners see it, but if they had at least a microchip, then we could quickly give them a phone call and say, 'we have your animal.'"

The microchip clinic is being held on September 28th at the Didsbury Veterinary Clinic.
