Summer will be winding down soon and the Airdrie Food Bank has already begun making it's preparations for Fall.

With children heading back to school, finances can get a bit tight and the food bank likes to ensure people can be helped.

Quinn Donaldson, General Manager of the Airdrie Food Bank, said September is generally a busy time of year.

"So we know that September is going to be busier as parents prepare to get kids back to school. Money, finances, get tighter in terms of school fees, registration fees, that kind of thing, so we are anticipating that our numbers will start to gain again going into the Fall."

On September 17, the Airdrie Food Bank will be hosting it's annual city-wide food drive.

"It'll be our city-wide food drive so everyone will be receiving a bag at their home before that and then they leave it out on that day and there is a group of volunteers that will come around and pick that up," said Donaldson.

The city-wide food drive only accepts non-perishable food items, although Donaldson added that the food bank is accepting produce donations directly to their location.

"We're seeing a lot of people bringing in fresh produce from their gardens because they grew too much for themselves and they're wanting to share that with others. And different potato harvests and different things that have been happening, so it's wonderful to continue getting that support from the community."
