Agriculture for Life is launching a province-wide campaign to raise awareness about Alberta's vast agriculture and it's connection to the urban community.

Called What's in the Field? connecting field to fork, Ag for Life is currently looking for farmers and ranchers who would like to participate.

"From an educational perspective, we thought, 'Well why can't we turn Alberta into a classroom?' And we work with producers and we put signs out in the fields that identify what it is they're growing," says Luree Williamson, CEO of Ag for Life.

All producers are invited to participate in the program as the signs will be able to state what crop is growing, or which breed of cattle can be seen.

"There are some crops that we see a lot more of throughout the province but we want to identify even the specialty crops or specialty livestock. A great example is, there's cows out in the field but we want to identify the breed," said Williamson.

The campaign isn't limited to just cattle; any kind of livestock will be accepted such as llamas, horses or donkeys.

Ag for Life isn't doing the campaign alone; they also have some strong support from various organizations.

"Because it's Alberta-wide, we're working with Alberta producers, we're also working the Alberta Transportation and the local MD's so that we can coordinate putting signs up into the fields."

The campaign, which started this month, will run until October.

There is no fee for producers to participate, and more information on the program can be found on the Agriculture for Life website.
