For the first time ever, Airdrie held it's own Film Festival last Saturday.

Movie buffs from the city and beyond came to the Town and Country Centre to see a variety of films from across the country.

"They came from all over Canada, primarily Alberta," said filmmaker Mitch George who helped organize the event, "We saw a lot of Calgarians films, Northern Alberta films, even Airdrie films, which is great."

The film festival was the first major event put on by the newly formed Airdrie Film Society, and according to George, it was well received.

"When you see a group of people enter a building and go and sit down and get ready and kinda understand and know that they're ready to watch local film and to honour local film, I think it's incredible."

At the end of the event, awards were handed out to the best of the best for the festival, but regardless, being a part of the whole thing is worth every minute.

"Even if you don't win, you're still getting applause at the end," said George, "I think that's all that filmmakers need to feel satisfied with their hard work."

The Film Society is hoping to grow from the festival and is always looking for more aspiring filmmakers in the Airdrie area.

You can find out more on the society's official website.
