Regular season scoring leader Jordan McConnell scored twice last night (March 23) to pace the Airdrie Thunder to a 6 - 4 win over the Copperheads in Coaldale.

The victory puts Airdrie up two games to none in the best of five Heritage Junior Hockey League final series and just one win from their first championship in 19 years.

Airdrie Head Coach Derek Stamp was happy with his team's resiliency last night.  "There was lots of adversity but we handled it the right way.  Out guys stayed focused and it paid off in the end," said Stamp.

The game didn't see it's first goal until the midway point of the second period.  Rylan Plante-Crough, Cooper Page and Zachary Giroux all had a goal and an assist.  Barrett Sheen also found the back of the net for Airdrie.

Jackson Little who was between the pipes last night for Airdrie blocked 27 of the 31 shots he faced.

The Thunder have the chance to raise the HJHL championship trophy on Tuesday night in the home confines of the Ron Ebbesen Arena.  Game time is 8:00 pm.
