Eight games into the Heritage Junior Hockey League season, the Airdrie Techmation Thunder have just three wins to their credit but their latest victory was a big one.

The Thunder overcame a 3 - 1 deficit to the undefeated Cochrane Generals to force overtime which eventually went to a shootout.  Trey Stovin scored the only goal of the shootout to let Airdrie pull out a 4 - 3 win and handed the Generals their first loss of the season.

JT Luterbach opened the scoring for the Thunder in the first.  After Cochrane got their two-goal cushion, Zach Couling pulled Airdrie closer before the end of the second.  Brennan Lucas then got Airdrie even with six and a half minutes left in the third to force the extra frame which led to Stovin's shootout heroics.

The second half of the weekend didn't go as well for Airdrie.  They traveled to Red Deer and were blanked 2 - 0 by the Vipers.  The Thunder actually outshot the Vipers 28 - 25 but couldn't beat Red Deer goaltender Josh Hilts.

The Thunder are sixth in the HJHL North Division with three wins and five losses.  Cochrane is in first in the division with an 8-0-1 mark.  In the South Division, the Okotoks Bisons lead the way at 7-1-0.

Next up for the Thunder is a Friday night (October 15) clash at home in the Ron Ebbesen Arena with the Sylvan Lake Wranglers.  Sylvan Lake is second in the North with a 6-2-0 mark.

Game time is 8:00 pm.
