December is a busy month and for the members of the Nose Creek Swim Association (NCSA) it has nothing to do with decorating, shopping and holiday baking.

80 Airdrie members of the club that has nearly 300 members, half from Airdrie and half from Calgary, are involved in three swim meets this month.  One of them happened last weekend as NCSA hosted the Winter Photo meet at the Foothills Pool in Calgary.

21 Airdrie based swimmers were a part of the regional meet that was for development level swimmers.  Assistant Head Coach Alexx Diepp says the meet went very well.

"First of all we hosted the meet and it's always a little bit more special when we get to host it and make it our own.  We had a bunch of kids going there and we had a great turnout with swimmers from Calgary coming.  It went really well.  Lots of our kids swam well and some of them made their provincial times and that's always a nice thing to celebrate with them."

One thing in particular that Diepp wanted to comment on was the fact that the meet was so successful because of the involvement of parents.  "As a club we did really well and our parents did a great job of hosting the meet and that allowed the swimmers to focus on their swimming and when we put together a great show like that the swimmers can only do well."

This coming weekend Nose Creek Swimmers will take part in two meets, one in Saskatoon and the other in Calgary.  14 of the best Airdrie swimmers will compete in the Saskatchewan - Manitoba provincial championships in Saskatoon.  43 swimmers will be at the Repsol Sports Centre in Calgary to participate in the Cascades Age Group Challenge.

Diepp says the swimmers going to Saskatoon are really looking forward to the meet.  "We always attend that meet because the level of competition is exactly what we're seeking for our swimmers.  Every time the kids go to a provincial meet they train hard for it and the odds of a high performance will be happening.   We rest the swimmers well to compete with the other swimmers who will be rested."

Diepp says typically Airdrie swimmers come home with medals and broken records.

The Calgary meet, says Diepp, is a huge meet with over 600 swimmers coming from all across Alberta along with swimmers from B.C.

Diepp says December is a peak performance month for NCSA.  "We let the swimmers have a chance to be in their peak form.  We pick moments of the year to do that and typically we do peak in December.  It's a perfect time for the swimmers to do well.  We're 13 weeks into our season and for them to have a chance to really come out strong and showcase their true talent is awesome.  December is a good time to do that before we go into our Christmas break."
