Six-way race set for Airdrie mayor’s chair as nominations officially close
Six people are officially in the running to become Airdrie’s next mayor. Nominations closed Sept. 22 at noon for the city’s 2025 municipal election. Candidates who filed papers before the deadline will appear on the ballot, unless they withdraw within 24 hours after the close of nominations by filing a written notice with the returning officer. The city says candidates are listed in the order nomination papers were submitted. Incumbents are noted. By registering for the provincial election, residents are automatically registered for the municipal election. ID requirements for municipal elections differ from those at the provincial and federal levels. Special ballots Mail-in ballot packages will be sent starting Sept. 29. Applications close Oct. 20 at noon, and ballots must be returned by Oct. 20 at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall. Voters are required to include a copy of their identification with completed ballots. A copy may be a printed photo or photocopy of an approved piece of ID. The personal information being collected is authorized under section 4(c) of the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) and will be used for the purpose of administering the 2025 General Election Special Ballot process in compliance with the Local Authorities Election Act. While personal information may be entered into an automated system for the purpose of preparing the permanent electors register, it will be managed and protected in accordance with the provisions of POPA.
