CPKC Holiday Train to stop in Airdrie Dec. 9 with free concert
The Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) Holiday Train will stop at Nose Creek Park on Dec. 9, featuring a free outdoor concert by Jade Eagleson and Teigen Gayse from 5:30 to 6 p.m., according to CPKC. Now in its 27th year, the brightly lit train will travel across Canada and the United States from Nov. 19 to Dec. 21 to raise money, food and awareness for community food banks, the railway says. It’s incredible to see communities come together every year to celebrate the holidays while supporting local food banks.” The same performers scheduled for Airdrie will appear earlier, Dec. 9, in Olds (2:30 to 3 p.m. at the 50 Street railway crossing) and Didsbury (3:45 to 4:15 p.m. at 20 Street and 18 Avenue). Other artists on this year’s tour include Barenaked Ladies, Smash Mouth, American Authors, JJ Wilde, Brittany Kennell, LANCO, Pynk Beard, Tiera Kennedy and Tyler Shaw, the company announced. “The Holiday Train brings more than donations — it brings hope, awareness and critical support at a time when it’s needed most,” said Mary Ostapenko Anstett, President of East Side Neighbourhood Services in Minneapolis, Minn., in the release. Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies, performing on the Holiday Train with stops in Alberta and British Columbia, said: “I can’t imagine a better way to visit some of Canada’s beautiful mountain towns than by riding the CPKC Holiday Train. It’s going to be a great time for a great cause!” All Holiday Train events are free to attend, and guests are encouraged to bring a food or monetary donation if they can. CPKC notes that donations collected at each stop remain in the local community. This year’s U.S. train will also feature “a new light display honouring the legacy of ‘Rudy’ and the recently retired Kansas City Southern Holiday Express train,” the company said.
