Alberta RCMP to target impaired, distracted driving in Thanksgiving safety campaign
The Alberta RCMP says it will conduct traffic enforcement this Thanksgiving long weekend, targeting impaired and distracted driving as part of a national road-safety campaign. The initiatives fall under the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police’s #OperationImpact2025, described by police as an annual public awareness campaign aimed at “making Canada’s roads the safest in the world.” This year’s theme is “Safety is in MY hands.” Enforcement will target impaired driving due to drugs or alcohol, as well as fatigue, distraction and speeding. “Over the past few months, we have seen multiple collisions resulting in fatalities,” said Sgt. Darrin Turnbull with Alberta RCMP Traffic. “We are thankful to all road users doing their part to make responsible and safe driving choices this holiday long weekend.” Police reminded motorists to: Not drive impaired, fatigued or distracted; Buckle up; and Drive responsibly and within the speed limit. Police said the campaign’s theme reminds drivers to make safe choices on the road. Anyone who witnesses dangerous or impaired driving is asked to call 911.
