February 21st-27th was Freedom to Read week in Canada.

The initiative is put on every year and brings awareness to dozens of books that have been challenged or banned across the world.

Airdrie's Public Library took part in Freedom to Read Week with different events as well as readings of some of the more well known challenged pieces of literature.

Members of City Council including Mayor Peter Brown, Candice Kolson and Kelly Hegg along with Pam Medland and other staff at the Library took time to read these banned books.

These works include classics like "To Kill A Mockingbird" and "Animal Farm" and Children's favourites "It's a Book" and "The Adventures of Captain Underpants."

Here's a recap of some segments from this year's readings for Freedom to Read Week.
