It was as close to a "must-win" game as the Calgary Wranglers wanted.

After losing to the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the opener of the best-of-five American Hockey League (AHL) Pacific Division Final, and heading to California for the final scheduled three games of the series, the Wranglers knew they needed a win.

And, they got one, taking a 3 - 2 decision to even the series at a game apiece.

Connor Zary, Jakob Pelletier and captain Brent Sutter scored for Calgary, with Sutter getting the winner by re-directing a shot in the final frame.

Dustin Wolf was solid in the Calgary goal as he turned aside 31 shots to pick up the victory for the AHL regular season champs.

The Wranglers now need two wins in the upcoming three games in Palm Springs.  Game three is Monday night, May 15th, game four goes Wednesday, May 17th and, if a fifth game is needed, it will be played Friday, May 19th.
