"While the project is ongoing, residents in the surrounding areas may experience a small increase in the amount of vehicular traffic. Traffic can be expected to return to normal volumes upon completion of the abandonment," a notice on the town's website stated.

TAQA also underlined that the project only includes work on pipelines that are part of a closed system, thus, no odours or emissions are expected while work is underway.

"In addition, there will be no continuous flaring or venting along the pipelines during the abandonment. TAQA North commits itself to completing this abandonment project with utmost care for the welfare and peace of mind of all residents in full compliance with all relevant safety and environmental regulations."
