After a power outage impacted thousands of customers in Cochrane and other areas of Rocky View County on Saturday, FortisAlberta said that it had fixed the problem.

However, according to the FortisAlberta outage map, there are still two smaller power outages in Cochrane impacting a few hundred consumers. The estimated time for the outages to be resolved is 7 p.m.

The power outage came at the same time as The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) declared a Grid Alert due to extreme cold, high demand and low imports.

"Please reduce your electricity use to only essential needs, to lower demand and minimize the potential for rolling outages this evening," read a statement from AESO.

The grid alert is the second in less than 24 hours issued by the provincial operator. On Friday, January 12, AESO issued a grid alert due to the extreme cold. In a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, AESO said the situation was exacerbated by, 'two large natural gas generator outages, and very low renewable power.'

Cochrane and most of Alberta continue to be under an extreme cold warning.
