Alberta Parks officials have warned about an ice jam that could cause potential flooding from the Bow River.

"Unstable and unpredictable ice conditions. Stay off river ice and well back from the river's edge! Ice jams in the Bow River are potentially causing overland flooding. Stay back from the edge of the Bow River, and away from any overland flooding," officials stated.

The warning was triggered on Saturday and is in effect until further notice encompassing both the Town of Canmore and the Bow Valley Wildland Provincial Park.

The warning came a few days after parks officials closed down The Narrows trail in the eastern portion of the Glenbow Ranch provincial park.

"The river has flooded and ice jammed over the trail in the Narrows so that section of trail is now closed. It'll likely be closed until spring, depending on the weather," officials stated.
