What started as a project idea by Chris Clark, a personal support worker with a local organization that provides day services for persons with disabilities, became a full-blown musical production that turned into a professionally recorded song, which now aims to raise funds for a much-needed sensory room for the organization.

Clark, a musician himself, wanted to incorporate his love of music into the daily activities of the clients of Loving Hands Partners In Care.

"I figured, instead of just singing songs that they already know, that it would be much more fun to write a song," he said.

And so several clients of the organization did just that, banding together to form the Loving Songsters. Not only did they write the lyrics of the song, which has now become a theme song for the organization, but each of them had to come up with their very own verses.

"It was really cool to see them write their lyrics," Clark said.

But the songwriters also became the musicians behind the melody. Last month, the group, which included Kristina, Justin, Frazer, and Corban on vocals, as well as Julian on drums, with Greg, both on vocals and the lead guitarist, and Clark as well who offered his support with vocals and on the rhythm guitar, would all go to a professional recording studio and record the song.

"Once we were in and they took turns going into the vocal booth and doing their parts; they did a great, great job, I must say," Clark added. "I was impressed. They exceeded my expectations."

While there was plenty of fun, client Kristina admits she was slightly nervous going into the music booth.

"I didn't know exactly what to expect, but once I got used to it - it was no big deal," she said.

Being a Taylor Swift fan, she channelled that into the recording. However, Corban said there were no nerves at all.

"I was calm and collected," he replied.

Vocalist, Justin, said that before the group went into the studio, there were many practice sessions, though he did say he didn't mind the studio set-up' in fact, he said that he would like his room to look akin to a recording studio. Frazer, like Corban, had no stage (studio) fright at all. He said that being in front of a microphone comes naturally to him. Frazer said he enjoys country music and is a fan of Paul Brandt.

But the group's outing to the studio and their jam session wasn't just about a fun day out. The project is meant to spur awareness and donations for a much-needed sensory room for the organization. Kristina said that a sensory room is very important.

"Some of our clients get overwhelmed and they need a quiet space to chill out and relax."

Justin said his very own sensory room would be packed with his favourite games, but he did underline something important.

"We're not doing it just for us - we're doing it for everyone else," he said.

The group's success was also recognized by the Loving Hands Partners In Care, management team, who posted about the group's endeavour on social media.

Donations can be made online via the group's profile on Bandcamp.
