Another sporting event has fallen victim to COVID 19.

Spruce Meadows has cancelled the 2020 edition of four of its show jumping events including the National from June 4-7, the Continental from June 11-14, the Pan American from June 25-28 and the North American competition from July 1-5.

"The health and well-being of our sponsors and their employees, our competitors, officials, volunteers, fans, the media, Spruce Meadows’ staff and the community at large is of paramount importance to us," said Spruce Meadows president and CEO Linda Southern-Heathcott.

The decision was announced Monday. The organization called the COVID-19 pandemic an unprecedented event and as nations, provinces, communities, health professionals and governments around the globe work together to try to address the crisis. Southern-Heathcott said with that in mind this was the best decision for everyone involved.

"It is with enormous regret that the Spruce Meadows Management team, with full respect and compliance with the recent World Health Organization, Canadian federal and provincial government guidelines, has made the difficult, but prudent decision, effective March 23, 2020, to officially cancel the Spruce Meadows Summer Series."

Spruce Meadows said it hopes to welcome the public back "when the time is right".
