Heavy snowfalls are possible for the start of October in many parts of Alberta.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement calling for large snowfalls over the next couple of days.

The heaviest snowfalls are likely to come in the areas between Nordegg and Pincher Creek but Airdrie and Rocky View are expecting quite a bit of snow as well.

Up to 2 centimetres is possible for today (October 1st) with up to 20 centimetres likely to fall by the end of Tuesday.

Temperatures are expected to climb slightly come Wednesday with sunshine forecasted by the middle of the week into Friday.
