The ponds at Sagewood are gonna get served this Saturday, with the Airdrie and District Tennis Association's Snowpen Tournament.

Think portable, 18 foot wide nets, where typical nets are 36 feet wide; low compression tennis balls, and regular racquet use. Don't for get the ice.

The tournament will see 8 players playing in a double knockout format, where you can lose your first match and go into the consolatation round. There will be two sheets of ice on the go, and don't be surprised to see players using skates either.

Here's a list of the competitors:

Chris Simnett, Airdrie
Cindy White, Airdrie
Kirsten Prelle, Cochrane
Madison Prelle, Cochrane
Chad Croal, Airdrie
Kathy Winstanley, Airdrie
Geoff Ferguson, Airdrie
Brandon Winstanley, Airdrie

Both Madison and Kirsten Prelle are highly ranked Junior players. Kirsten was on the Canadian U12 team last year, on regular courts mind you.

The Airdrie Snowpen goes from 1-3 p.m. on the ponds behind Sagewood Landing in Airdrie. If all goes well, the Airdrie and District Tennis Association hopes to make this an annual event.
