Six Airdre athletes from George McDougall will be taking their talents to the next level to play in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL).

Those six athletes include:

  • Robert Lasebnik - Kicker/Punter
  • Emmanuel Mohimi  - Defensive back
  • Zachariah Hardy - D-lineman
  • Adam Mosher - Quarterback
  • Paul Condon - Runningback
  • Dawson Jensen - Linebacker

Lasebnik, Mohimi and Hardy will be staying in the province and playing for the Calgary Colts while Mosher, Condon and Jensen will heading to our neighbouring province Saskatchewan to play for the Regina Thunder.

Chris Glass, the Head Coach of the Mustangs is excited to see these kids keep their football career going.

"I'm incredibly proud of the development of these kids and to see them moving on to both the Colts and Thunder; meaning we get to see them in the Prairie Conference (of the CJFL). It's going to be pretty cool to watch them play."

Glass believes the system that they run with the Mustangs will definitely help these players as they move to the next level.

"Our offensive and defences are on par with what you see at the junior levels, they're just not as complex.  We expect them to be able to understand what they're doing at that level."

Coaching at George McDougall since 2014, Glass mentioned he has seen around 20-30 athletes move on to the next level, this class being one of the largest.

"Robert, Emmanuel and Zach are going to be big parts of the Calgary Colts. I know that Robert is going to push to start right away. Zach is just a great physical specimen, a really smart kid, and a hard worker. Emmanuel has done so much learning and has seen so much growth in his time with us. They're all going to be a big part of the Colts."

Glass went on to talk about the athletes that will be joining the Thunder.

"When you talk about Adam Mosher, Paul Condon and Dawson Jensen, I cannot say enough about those three. They were the reason that George Mac went from a very good program to one of the best in the province. They set the standard for us. Regina has three beautiful football players on their way."

Glass hopes one day these stars will come back and help make even more great athletes.

"Hopefully, it's going to be 10-15 years before I see the six kids on my coaching staff. They were a huge part of our identity and our culture and I couldn't be more proud of them. It's going to be strange to go from being their coach to being their fan."

Glass finished off by saying when these two teams do meet this upcoming season, he is undecided about which team he will cheer for.
