Rocky View Schools (RVS) is hoping for the best when it comes to 2024 and receiving funding from the provincial government.

While the 2022-23 school year ended this year and the current school year, 2023-24 started this year, RVS has seen plenty of growth in 2023.

"We are a fast-growing school division sort of consistently over the last number of years growing at anywhere between four to six per cent," stated Fiona Gilbert, Board Chair for RVS Board of Trustees.

At the beginning of this school year, nearly 1,000 additional students are enrolled in Rocky View Schools (RVS) as a result of significant enrollment growth in Airdrie, Cochrane, and Chestermere.

"We did have much success in a meeting with our local MLAs and the Minister of Infrastructure. They all know the Rocky View Schools story as far as the need for new schools in our communities."

As of right now, RVS is 96 per cent full division-wide, Airdrie alone is at the 96 per cent mark.

In this previous budget, RVS was awarded either design, pre-planning or planning funding for four different schools around the division. They are hoping in this upcoming budget, they receive capital new construction funding for all the projects. This includes a K-8 school and grades 9-12 school.

Here are the top 10 priorities for RVS:

  1. Airdrie K-8 school
  2. Airdrie High school
  3. Cochrane K-8 school
  4. Chestermere K-9 school
  5. Airdrie K-8 school
  6. Springbank K-8 school
  7. Cochrane High School
  8. Airdrie K-8 school
  9. Cochrane K-8 school
  10. Crossfield K-8 school

"We will continue to share the story around the urgent need for more schools. We do have an engagement currently ongoing in Airdrie for the balancing of Airdrie students spaces that is ramping up."

Last month, RVS approved a request asking the province for 22 modular classrooms.

Gilbert stated they will continue to advocate as much as possible to be able to provide the space that is needed for the students.
